Maarten Voordouw

Dr. Maarten Voordouw is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Veterinary Microbiology at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan. From 2011 to 2018, he was an Assistant Professor in the Institute of Biology at the University of Neuchâtel in Neuchâtel, Switzerland where his research was focussed on the ecology of Lyme disease.
The causative agent of Lyme disease, Borrelia burgdorferi, often consists of many genetically distinct strains. At the University of Saskatchewan, one of his main research interests is understanding how this strain diversity is maintained in nature.
His research group will contribute to CLyDRN Pillar 2 – Prevention and Risk Reduction Activities. Specifically, he will conduct surveillance for blacklegged ticks in the province of Saskatchewan.
