Caroline Cameron
PhD
Dr. Caroline Cameron is a Professor of Biochemistry & Microbiology at the University of Victoria and Director of the graduate program within the Department of Biochemistry & Microbiology. She is the Canada Research Chair in Molecular Pathogenesis, the President of the International Society for Sexually Transmitted Diseases Research (ISSTDR) and Chair of the 2019 STI & HIV World Congress. She completed her PhD at the University of Victoria and her post-doctoral training at the University of Seattle.
Dr. Cameron has over 22 years of experience with working with spirochetal pathogens, the infections they cause, and the platforms used to diagnose them. The Cameron Laboratory focuses upon the invasive capacity of spirochete pathogens, with the goal of better understanding the mechanisms underlying pathogenesis and systemic dissemination within the host. Using a combination of molecular, cell biology, imaging, and proteomic techniques their aim is to identify and characterize adhesins and other virulence factors from the spirochetes.
Dr. Cameron is a Co-Applicant on the grant. She will contribute to research activities in detection and diagnosis (Pillar 1), especially as it relates to proteomic approaches for Lyme diagnosis.
